The news waves seems to be streaming only one news, which is; president Buhari’s open declaration to run for the presidential seat again in 2019. But his wing man is silent on the matter. Is the Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, going to continue the ride with his boss behind the wagon with his hands tied or he has other plans?
Osinbajo’s integrity was one of the things to put Nigerian’s mind to rest coupled with President Muhammadu Buhari’s disciplinarian legacies which is now under attack since his inability to fulfil his promise to Nigerians on that ground. In all honesty, reports gathered shows that Yemi Osinbajo was one of those turned to when APC needed a sound programme plan and manifesto to win Nigerians over which rode out with ‘Roadmap to a new Nigeria’.
The Vice President went ahead to beat his chest around the coountry on some plans to be executed by the Buhapri-led administration such as the; Free school meal paln, cash transfer to the poorest Nigerians and economic opportunities for Youth population. Osinbajo’s responsibilities as the second man in power are; To oversee the economic planning team and report, recommendations and Judicial system reform, an expectation by Nigerians.
How has he fared playing this role? Looters cases still in court after three years, the Judicial system is still slow and partial. The free school meal is not seen as successful neither has their been news about giving cash to the poorest Nigerians. Going back in history, Osibanjo’s legacy threads back to his tenure as the Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos state. He was said to be active in that role which made him so popular. Let’s not forget his role as the Acting President during President Buhari’s ill-health status which led to his departure to London on May 9th, 2017.
Osibanjo rule this coutry for just six months and installed peace in Niger Delta during a prevailing crisis, visited states including the northern parts of the country to see into Nigerians’ welfare and he also increased the pace of the 2016/2017 budget approval.
His silence in the current administration and his dispositions shows that the VP wants nothing to tarnish his integrity, he will rather look on in distance and not soil his hands than join in the pretence at hand.
For a man who contributed to a lot of books and journals such as; Some Public Law Consideration in Environmental Protection, Human Rights, Economic Development and the Corruption Factor in Human Rights and the Rule of Law and Development in Africa.
Curiosity got us to ask, what card is Osinbajo going to play in President Buhari’s election re-run in 2019? Will he be in or out?
