Wike, Fubara Feud So Far

Wike, Fubara

The ongoing feud between former River state Governor (now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory), Nyesome Wike and the recent incumbent governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara has caused political unrest and efforts are being put in place to settle the differences between both parties.

Wike nominated Fubara for the governorship position in Rivers state to succeed him after his tenure, but five months after Fubara has been politically installed, it seems him and Wike can no longer see eye-to-eye on political standards in Rivers state.

Following the Police Council Meeting in Aso Villa Abuja, Wike claims he will not allow Fubara to distort his political structure in River’s state due to his desire to remain politically relevant, Fubara claims it is democracy for the state before any other.

Situation quickly escalated on Sunday, when a section of the House of Assembly complex, located along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, got burnt by suspected arsonist.

Governor Fubara then on Monday moved to remove the Speaker of the House and replaced him with the leader of the house. It was said that Wike’s loyalists of 24 members out of the 26 memebers of the State House of Assembly, made moves to impeach the incumbent governor.

The impeachment moves which were boycotted with protest staged by Fubara’s loyalist led to the unsuccessful outcome of the impeachment process.

In recent report, President Bola Tinubu is said to have summoned a meeting to settle the differences between both parties amicably, But Wike is said to be refusing any form of negotiations on the situation of it is not favourable to his political relevance in Rivers state.

The Rivers state High Court in Isiokpo of Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, has issued a restraining order to the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule from taking any action with respect to the impeachment against Governor Fubara.

The court also ordered that all parties subpoenaed should maintain status quo pending resolution of the motion and the case was adjourned to the 14th of November 2023.
