In the ongoing tussle between the ruling party, APC, and Saraki, Oshiomole threatens to take the senate presidential position from Saraki by force and Saraki responding with a matching threat of the required two-third majority to evict him from office and a wild speculation that Saraki might want to run for the presidency in 2019.
Contrary to the claims that the ruling party has an upper hand in the national assembly, Hon. Olujimi calls their bluff by saying both APC and PDP have equal members in the senate of the 102 members left. The other are two ADC members and two APGA members representing their senatorial districts, with a record of one death and Sen. Dariye facing jail terms.
Hon. Olujimi’s analysis exposes the ruling party’s inability to have a two-third majority to impeach senate president Bukola Saraki out of office. The ‘what ifs’ surrounding the situation therefore could be the presidency taking unconstitutional measures against the legislative arm of government.
Recently, there seems to be a shuffle of some PDP members dumping the party and defecting to APC. The political implication of these events remains unknown. What if it comes back to counter Saraki’s office?
During the week also, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar came out to remind Nigerians that he would be running for the presidential position in 2019, which could mean that, there is yet to be a concession within PDP on their desired candidate to run for the office. Markafi recently asked the party to present its candidate in a recent public appearance.
If indeed Saraki has the intention to run for presidency in 2019, a speculation deduced from his meetings with 54 political parties, kwara State elders and General Ibrahim Babangida, which are not necessary events if there is nothing more than his defection to another party, there then is an impending war within PDP that could crash his plan if not resolved amicably.
But the story is far from over as the tussle continues even in the absence of President Buhari who is in London on vacation for ten days. But the story is far from over as the tussle continues even in the absence of President Buhari who is in London on vacation for ten days.
