Sunday Igboho: The Truth Yorubas Need To Face During This Fulani Herdsmen Crisis

The first feature every Yoruba person is born with is the ability to be tactful and Chief. Sunday Igboho surely possesses the same quality which is evident in how he has executed his plan to evacuate Fulani herdsmen from Ibarapa, Oyo state.

Yorubas are having an angled-excitement, thinking, and strategic planning that sponsoring Sunday Igboho to fight off the Fulani herdsmen from the Southwest, just because he fought for his quarter in Ibarapa is an expectation right now among Yorubas.

From Sunday’s recent interview with the owner of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, he is not one hundred percent willing to carry the burden to fight for all the six states in the southwest, because there is a constant reminder that we have plenty to lose and as yorubas, we prefer to choose an option that does not resolve to death if it is available.

Story of Atrocities in Ibarapa According to Sunday Igboho

Chief. Sunday said he was called by elders in his community to help evacuate the Fulani herdsmen and he with other youths in the community went around the bushes to comb out the perpetrators who have killed, kidnapped and raped indigenes of the community and the government did nothing about it.

On returning to the traditional rulers of the community, he was told that the Seriki Mogaji of the Fulani herdsmen was to be warned and on their way, Sunday said he was told by the youths who accompanied him that, there were three checkpoints before getting to the Seriki’s palace and they could not go alone because he will kill them all.

On getting to the palace, as he was talking to the Seriki Mogaji who wasted no time calling a ranked officer in the police force, was told to speak to the ranking officer and as he received the call, some of the youths who accompanied Sunday alerted him that a fulani guy had a gun aimed at him.

Sunday said he collected the gun from the guy and as he was about to continue his conversation with the Seriki, another guy shot at him and the gun was also taken from the guy, and that was when he said he realized that the Seriki was a criminal and therefore issued a seven days ultimatum for the Seriki and his cohorts to evacuate the land.

Sunday said, on his way back to Ibarapa on the seventh day, he saw nothing less than twenty soldier vans in the community. He claimed not to know anything about the burnt palace of the Seriki Mogaji because he already called the Ibarapa police force and the Oyo police force quarter to be a witness to his activities in Ibarapa for that day.

The Theories

Yorubas are happy because Sunday Igboho has been witnessed to possess mystical traditional powers that no one knew still existed, and the yorubas are now trying to build a camp of refuge around that power to save the Southwest.

Sunday did not deny such statements, he only played it down to be a norm and should be used for the good of the people.

On the other hand, the yoruba governors are not supporting him and it has been rumoured to be due to the federal might as well as their greed, which has made them neglect the people they are meant to protect from the said perpetrators.

The Truth

The matter seems divided because the yoruba political leaders do not share the views of the traditional leaders, which is to evacuate Fulani herdsmen from Yoruba land, hence, the crisis might not be solved out of unity. Yorubas are ready to be rebellious and even the ones in the diaspora are willing to fund the rebellious quest, but no one seems to be ready to bell the cat just yet.

The truth is, Sunday might not be willing to continue after his house got burnt when he claimed that yorubas were among the people that burnt down his old house.

The Plan

Consultations are still ongoing behind the curtains, some think there will be retaliation for Sunday Igboho’s burnt house just to make him feel supported and encouraged to continue to fight the Fulani’s in yorubaland.

Although, Sunday himself said he is not backing down from the quest until he sees that Fulani herdsmen are out of yoruba land. But he also said, he is not ready to head the Amotekun network and has not received anything from anyone for his impact in Ibarapa.

Other groups are coming up, but are only willing to join forces with Sunday Igboho and clamoured for yorubas in the diaspora to financially support the quest to chase out the Fulani herdsmen.

All in all, the inability to continue to fight a course has been the reason why the country has not gained many results when it comes to the clamour for change. #EndSars, #Revolutionnow, and now Fulani herdsmen.
