People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has stirred controversies over his battle for the mandate in the Nigerian Tribunal ahead of May 29 inauguration and he is stopping at nothing as he alleged that the All progressive Congress rigged the presidential election and has an evidence with the result of an INEC server that was revealed earlier by him.
The APC are also trying to fight Atiku off by raising some allegations against him, by implying that Atiku is not a Nigerian because the district in Adamawa where Atiku claims he hails from, Jada, was part of Cameroon in 1946 before it was later created to belong to Nigeria. In defense against this allegation however, Atiku has everyone raising their eyebrow when he claims he is a Nigerian because his father is from Sokoto state and his mother from Dutse, the present day Jigawa state and his only claim to Adamawa is because he was born there, which means Atiku is not from Adamawa.
The funny thing about the story is that, in Nigeria, it is not possible to be an indigene of a state by birth. According to the Nigerian constitution, one can only be a citizen of Nigeria by birth or immigration while being an indigene of a state based on blood relation through the paternal roots or by marriage for a woman. So, Atiku was expected to lay claim to Sokoto and not Adamawa.
It is therefore ironic to name a man the Waziri of Adamawa and known as one based on identity only to find out, he was never related to anyone in Adamawa by blood. Therefore, if Atiku is not from Adamawa but related by blood to a father who is from Sokoto, then he should lay claim to Sokoto state and not confuse Nigeria with the story of his roots. Because the situation makes it seem as if, he does not know what the constitution is, talkmore of ruling a nation by the same law his story difers.
