During the weekend, Peter Obi’s audio leak phone conversation with General Overseer of The Winners Living Faith Church, Bishop Oyedepo was leaked to the media space through People’s Gazette. In the Audio, Peter Obi was asking Oyedepo to help canvas for vote in the southwestern part of Nigeria.
A part of the audio leak seems to have riled up some Nigerians when he made a statement that “this is a religious war” one could easily have termed it an instigated statement that could cause chaos in the religious spectrum between Muslims and Christians, because the APC (All Progressive Congress) presidential candidate Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who emerged the just concluded general election at the time, chose a Muslim Vice-President while being a Muslim himself, which Nigerians don’t consider as balanced or inclusive enough.
Truthfully, the statement could easily have caused a divide in the country religiously and that can easily be labelled an act of treason. During the campaign period leading to the election, those who believed Peter Obi should be the next president (Obidients), be it Twitter influencers or celebrities, the canvassing for Obi was hinged on tribal diversity majorly between Igbos and the Yorubas.
This probably marred his campaign-train because there was a constant divide between the two ethnic groups. Major stakeholders of the party did nothing to debunk this ugly narrative, and this could be labelled a way of instigating chaos in the country. Peter Obi’s warriors also paid too much attention to denting Tinubu’s image rather than focusing on their strength and how their emergence into governance can benefit the country and its people.
The ‘Thank you daddy’ is now trending which was the phrase Peter Obi was according to the authority of Bishop Oyedepo all through the leaked phone call audio conversation.
