#OccupyLekkiTollgate: Once Again, What Is the End Game?

Yesterday on Twitter, the youths have once again decided to protest against the re-opening of the Lekki tollgate after the killing of some youths there last year October. The Lagos State Government set up a panel to investigate the shooting at the tollgate and despite inconclusions, the panel has agreed to the re-opening of the tollgate.

Hence, the youth have agreed to protest at the tollgate area on Friday. But the question remains; will the same approach work if it had not yielded any result the last time it was used? Because, a civil and constitutional protest was launched against police brutality and the government responded with gunfire against unarmed citizens.

If nothing was communicated from their actions, one thing remains a known fact, which is; the government does not care about the constitutional right of any Nigerian and probably this time, the youth need to think of safety while they exercise their rights. Safety and right should go together for the upcoming protest on Friday.

Conclusively, the focus should not waver. The Nigerian Soldier, Lagos state Governor and the Federal government must answer their part in the ongoing investigation concerning the Lekki Massacre. Till then, the re-opening of the Lekki-Tollgate should not be considered.
