The Hall might be decorated with the finest materials and the bride might look like, heaven itself brought her down to earth on a chariot and everything might smell of money and style, but behind the scene of Nigerian weddings are some events or experiences that are enough to snatch away the fairytale of Nigerian weddings, leaving the fairytales only to the wedding photos.

Even where an event planner is concerned, there is nothing to wane off family dramas and more. Here are some factors that will remain because of how people have perceived Anigerian weddings to be.

Financial Factors: Many have gone out of their ways to have a glamourous wedding and some extort friends through the sales of Aso Ebi or Groomsmen and Bridal train attires.

Some solely depend on their rich parents or relatives to come through financially, but on the wedding day, you cannot tell. Weddings glamour sometimes is also dependent on friendship connections.

Couples who solely plan their weddings have to save up to achieve the weddings of their dreams. But there are some rich guys though, who can sponsor their weddings and not grumble after the event, but how many of them?

Family-Side Factor: Hmm, no amount of money can save couples from this factor, because of the Nigerian culture, self-entitlement and tradition. There is one relative from the father’s side or mother’s side who pressures the mothers into desperation. You hear them say “No o, we have to do it right o, she is not doing it more than once, it should be done right”.

The in-laws also have the way they do things, that contradicts that of the other partner, usually, it is the guy that needs to compromise on this level.

Guest Factor: The guests are also something to behold, most of them like to be taken as important at your wedding, the couples are expected to greet guests table-by-table. For sure, some will say they had nothing to eat at the event, some will say they are entitled to souvenirs because they bought the Aso Ebi for the event. Some important guests expect their names to be announced by the MC during their entrance to the reception.

Bottom line, it hardly goes smoothly, to the extent some couples cannot wait for the event to be over even before saying the word “I do”. The pictures look like fairytales, but the event if told, as a story is similar to moonlight tales.
