Maina: Fayose States Maina-Facts Against Buhari

“Satan calling Judas Iscariot a sinner”

President Muhammadu Buhari took the bull by the horn when he demanded the immediate sack of Chairman of the President Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina and it seems both the opposition parties and the supporting parties have something to say about Buhari’s action.

Outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose referred to Buhari’s fight against corruption as “Satan calling Judas Iscariot a sinner” as he paints Buhari in a shady colour pertaining to Maina’s case and several similar cases. He said “If Maina, who was declared wanted for corrupt practices by the International Police Organisation, (INTERPOL) after he was dismissed from office by the Civil Service Commission in 2013 for allegedly committing N2.1 Billion pension fraud while in office, could be secretly reinstated and even promoted without writing the required civil service promotion examination, no one should be in doubt any longer that Buhari is not fighting any corruption.”

The Governor further expressed his view about  the former Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, who was accused of corruption by the Senate, removed from office unceremoniously and declared wanted is now the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Ikoyi, Lagos. Also the Osbourn Case is still yet to be addressed and the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu was indicted of corruption by the Department of State Service (DSS) and all that was done by President Buhari was to ask the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to investigate the DSS report. Up till today, nothing has been heard about it and Magu, despite his rejection by the Senate, Magu is still acting as the EFCC chairman.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation however denied reinstating Maina into the Federal Civil Service in a statement released by the media civil service department “The attention of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has been drawn to several media reports that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has approved the reinstatement into the Federal Civil Service of Alhaji Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina and his subsequent posting to the Ministry of Interior.

“The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) wishes to inform the public that the reinstatement and posting of Alhaji Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina never emanated from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Consequently, the purported reinstatement and posting by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation is totally wrong and misleading.”

According to Governor Fayose’s allegations against President Buhari, it seems there is a tradition of the current administration reinstating supporting parties back to office after they are being accused of financial fraudulent act and secretly done or unnoticed by the public and it is hard to deny this trend. Is the present administration fighting corruption hypocritically or  merely playing politics with the future of Nigeria as usual? Either way, we have witnessed a lot of change we never imagined or expected from the Buhari’s led administration.
