The river state governor, Nyesom Wike bestowed an honour on Grammy award winner, Burna Boy and made it a Homecoming event for the Ye Croner. According to reports gathered, Burna Boy charged the state government 100 million naira to appear for the event. Who gets paid to go home to their hometown?
Not in any way playing down the great achievement of the fine lad, but a few youths in the states could have been established by the same amount. Of course, Burna Boy deserves to charge his state government, after all, it is his craft.
As much as the successful youths are being celebrated, it should be an eye-opener for the government to elevate more youths. Burna Boy was not encouraged by his state government when he was trying to make it to the top, hence, it is not a shameful move for him to demand from them.
One could also ask if it was a scheme to embezzle state funds? It is not news that some politicians collaborate with celebrities, mostly musicians. As much as this is not a known fact, it’s still not a theory to over-look.
