The Lagos State Governor, Ambode Akinwunmi alongside Lagosians celebrated the 79th birthday of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti in style as the Governor unveils a statue in honour of the Afrobeat legend on the October 15, 2017. Fela was a rebel who fought for the masses against the then military rule through music.
Fela is yearly celebrated in Lagos on the day supposed to be his birthday and different artists perform at the Shrine as he fondly called it which is located at Ikeja, Mainland area of the State while he was alive. This way, his memory lives on with us and he will never die.
he unveiling happened just before the legend’s son Femi Kuti climbed the stage to entertain Fela’s lovers along with Governor Ambode as felabration came to an end for this year.
