Just like the days of Joseph the dreamer, Global Food Agencies have predicted hunger in sixteen states of thirty-six states in Nigeria likely to experience food shortage that could affect 3.8 million people.
This list which was compiled by global food agencies, one of which is UN Food and Agriculture Organisation named Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, Jigawa, Plateau, Niger, Kebbi, Katsina and Kaduna among the states to be affected.
The agencies issued the warning on Thursday, March 15 in Abuja at a stakeholders meeting for the presentation of the results of the March 2018 Cadre Harmonisé (CH) analysis of food and security situation in Nigeria.
The statement here reveals there is much to expect from the food shortage as only 10 million people were analysed which gave the 3.8 million results. Total population of residents in those areas will give us a result way above 3.8 million. Read statement below;
It said: “More than 10 million people were analysed and over 3.8 million people need urgent attention of food, while it was projected that 5.8 million people would face extreme food and nutrition deficits. “Most of the analysed households have food stocks that may last only few months before the lean period of June to March and they need urgent attention for the situation not to get out of hand.”
The honest question evolving from this discovery will now be; How many people can the government feed? How many OF the millions of people to be affected can secure a job before the stipulated date of hunger strike? How many people will have to die during that period of hunger?
The listed states are the ones with IDP who have are said to be provided with basic amenities and food from UN UNICEF and other NGOs. If those much has been given to are now the ones expecting less, there is something wrong with our source of information or better still the system of government.
