Fourth World Country Is A Thing. I happen to be from One

If a third world country is a war zone and an undeveloped area, a fourth world country should be something close to the governing body enslaving the entire population. As I write this, our leaders are after our lives and nothing has been asked of us in exchange yet.

Situations deteriorate daily under the current administration that has not hidden from the fact that it expects everything and every citizen to do its bidding.

The Security of the nation is nothing to write home about, despite the government’s inability to protect its citizens, they have prevented citizens from protecting themselves. Recent developments regarding the Southwest and the Fulani herdsmen have escalated. The state government is acting cowardly and the young man Sunday Igboho who has taken the fight upon himself to send killer herdsmen packing is constantly being harassed with arrest and intimidated.

No More Freedom of Opinion to Our leaders. As citizens, we do not have an opinion on how the government leads us anymore, we are not to question or make our anguish about their poor leadership known.

An example was the Lekki Massacre on October 20, 2020, where youths were killed in numbers during the End Sars protest against police brutality against the youths. And till now, a panel set to hear the case has come up with nothing. A panel to mock the dead ones.

When it comes to how they are handling the Covid-19 situation or any health related issue in my country, it can be regarded as appalling. After being asked to pay for the test, you are told to go home and come back after two weeks that the virus might have gone round to your loved ones.

Citizens know that the government is not so concerned about them, they are only in it to line their pockets. Average citizens cannot afford basic health care or amenities like good roads, water, or power supply. When they decide to do provide for themselves, the government expects to be paid in some ways before they can allow the installation of these amenities.

The voting system in my country has collapsed a long time ago. Eligible voters cannot vote because their voter’s card will not be given to them. Thugs snatch ballot boxes openly yet, the electoral body still has a way of counting the wards with these issues. Political party agents buy people’s votes publicly, without any investigation carried out to pin down the culprits.

Corruption on the other hand is no longer a shame. They don’t even bother to cover up with intelligent stories anymore. You hear things like a snake or monkey swallowed billions of money. No snake was killed, no monkey was found with loads of cash.Pathetic.

I am a Nigerian and my country is worse than a third-world nation.
