“I wrote my final exams, defended my projects and was awaiting convocation when I was summoned by the management of the University saying I posted certain things that put the university in a bad light. In all my posts, I never mentioned the name of the University nor the name of any of her officials. Yet on the 12th of this month, I received a letter of expulsion for this supposed reason.”
A final year student of The Redeemers University Debo Adebayo, on October 12 was expelled due to his post on social media over the misconducts of the school officials. The school management justified their action based on the school rules and regulations and according to the school guide which reads “Character and Learning” judged Debo’s actions which was interpreted as portraying the school in a bad light.
Here is the post by Debo On Social Media
According to Debo, The school management’s action was not expected as he explained , not put the school in bad light in anyway and did not mention the university or it’s officials in any of his posts on social media. “I wrote my final exams, defended my projects and was awaiting convocation when I was summoned by the management of the University saying I posted certain things that put the university in a bad light. In all my posts, I never mentioned the name of the University nor the name of any of her officials. Yet on the 12th of this month, I received a letter of expulsion for this supposed reason,” he said.
The Expulsion Letter
The young lad who has been nominated for an award by City People Magazine stated that, the expulsion letter was the bad blood between him and the school management as he often advocate for a better welfare of his fellow students. “I am trying to understand the reason behind this action by the management of the university. Could it be because, for the first time in history, my administration refused to give the Vice Chancellor and Director of Students Affairs awards on our students’ appreciation day as we reached the conclusion that they did not deserve it? Could it be because my administration fought passionately for students’ rights; food, water, light scarcity? Could it be because I stood for the rights of students when they were falsely accused of defrauding the University,” Debo said.
Both private and government owned universities seem to have the same agitation over student’s poor welfare by their school management.Earlier this week, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti had a show down due to a final year student’s death for the same reason and now, it is a final year student who just got expelled. It is high time the NUC look into the school systems to correct these problems before it gets out of hand.
