Buhari Goes Back In The Ring

It seems President Muhammadu Buhari is back on track with his fight against corruption as he is ready to fulfil his promise to Nigeria over the unveiling and giving the names of top officials who looted funds during the past administration. The inspiration might be over the on going trend of corruption right under the President nose over the case of a none functioning Medical Health Centre in the State House which came to light after First Lady Aisha Buhari publicly lamented over the situation of the State House Clinic.

The cue might also be taken from the $25 billion illegal contract awarded by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which has made the presidency shift on their seats recently over Dr. Ibe Kachikwu’s leaked letter to President Buhari.

Regardless of where the final decision to reveal the looters came from, President Buhari has backed agencies and the  Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abukabar Malami, SAN, to provide the records of suspected looters containing evidence and necessary materials in due process to the Federal High Court who has handled the case ever since.

Malami met with delegation from Social-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP in his office at Abuja to disclose the intention of the president. According to reports gathered from Daily Post, Malami said ”

President Muhammadu Buhari, has directed all relevant agencies to compile documents on names of all suspected looters.

This was disclosed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abukabar Malami, SAN, during a meeting at his office in Abuja with a delegation from Social-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP.  Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, and other relevant agencies involved in the recovery of looted funds to promptly put the documents together with a view to fully and promptly enforcing the judgment by Justice Shagari.

According to reports gathered from Daily Post, Malami said “President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all relevant agencies to compile documents on names of all looters with a view to promptly enforcing the judgment of a Federal High Court in Lagos ordering the government to release to Nigerians information about the names of high ranking public officials from whom public funds were recovered.” as stated by Justice Shagari on July 5, 2017.

The president is sure back with initial plans to fight corruption, we hope this decision will not be compromised again has it is not the first time the plan to release those names has often failed.
