It is common in the African settings for a man who is matured enough to start a family to pay a price on the woman he intends to start the family with. Why? The reason is because it symbolizes a claim of ownership on the woman and the woman also sees it as as a symbol of dedication to a man and the home and a call to be faithful to one man and one man only.
For these to be complete it will make a whole lot of sense if women also starts to pay dowry on a man she wishes to settle down with. If paying some certain amount of money makes a man feel he owns a woman and the woman is obligated to be faithful by God and man, then let we women also pay their dowry to make them feel obligated to us and know only one woman owns them and one woman alone.
Besides, it doesn’t seem fair. Women crave and sing gender equity all the time, why don’t we lead by example and do the right things to foster the religion we are all trying to create.
The ‘Change’ era too is not making it easy for anyone, anyone will make do with the little help that can be rendered in these hard times. For the men, the good news is that not all families receive bride price over their daughter which means those girls are a bonus to the rest of your life. I hear they are often found in the western part of the country. You can now start to draw a search map. Oh! life made easy. Ask Google where they are.
