A young boy was screaming from the street after the song “Able God” dropped and filling up the street. His cover for the song paved his way to attention and he went on press tour sponsored by YBNL who later signed him and then his voice went dead.
And now, he dropped a song “Pray For Me”, some kind of song I will say is a tell all on what happened with YBNL, his fears for what is to come and his need to prepare without fear ahead of anything. The young artist is a talent that is rare in the Nigerian industry and the one who should not be taken for granted. If in a short while, he can put to words and make music out of his experience in this new world, he is definitely capable of captivating minds with a technique perceived as unique.
But a question remains unanswered. Why does YBNL take these young artists in and spit them out without a backbone to stand among their peers. Picazo being the recent artist under YBNL record label to go through this, although in all fairness, Picazo admits to signing with another record label called “Senior Boyz” when he realized he was recording songs but YBNL was not releasing them, LYTA said the same thing about the record label. Lil Kesh’s case might be slightly different, It was admitted by Adekunle Gold that, Lil Kesh’s contract was not renewed and so, he (Lil Kesh) left to start his own record label “Yagi Records”.
But the case of LYTA and Picazo is worrisome and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Could it be impatience on the part of the young artistes that irritates YBNL? could it be insecurity of sharing the platform with young artistes where the ‘street sound’ is related? Notwithstanding, the young artistes are still grateful for the attention they got from YBNL and they continue to ride on the shoulder of the waves that started their carrier. LYTA has a new single with Davido now and this new single from PICAZO is everything you want to hear about reality. I only pray the all keep doing well.
